Trader consensus for the January FOMC rate decision currently assigns a 58% implied probability to no change in the federal funds rate, driven by recent inflation readings and labor market data that support a steady policy stance. With the 25 basis point hike at 23% and a 25 basis point cut at 13%, markets appear to price in balanced risks around the Fed’s latest projections rather than aggressive shifts. Persistent core inflation trends and resilient employment figures have tempered expectations for either rapid easing or tightening, while the low probabilities for 50 basis point moves reflect limited volatility in the data-dependent path. Upcoming CPI releases and the December FOMC statement remain key catalysts that could adjust these odds.
