The San Diego Padres head to PNC Park for an early-season clash with the Pittsburgh Pirates amid a rash of pitching injuries hampering their rotation and bullpen, including Joe Musgrove's ongoing Tommy John recovery, Griffin Canning's Achilles issue, and recent IL stints for Yuki Matsui (groin) and Matt Waldron. San Diego sits at 1-4 after dropping four of five, with offensive struggles persisting in their latest loss to Boston on April 3. Pittsburgh, buoyed by home-field advantage near their home opener, counters with Shane Baz likely on the mound but missing Jared Jones (60-day IL post-surgery); their young lineup shows promise against a Padres staff vulnerable to early wear. Head-to-head history favors San Diego recently (9-1 last 10), though rest advantages and weather could sway this low-sample matchup.
