In the opening round of the ATP U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston, similarly ranked Americans Zachary Svajda (No. 96) and Paraguayan Adolfo Daniel Vallejo (No. 99) clash for the first time on clay, with the winner facing top Americans Tommy Paul or Alex Michelsen. Vallejo holds a clear surface edge, boasting a 79-58 Challenger/ITF clay record including a recent Brasilia Challenger final, though he fell in Asuncion's second round last week. Svajda, with a modest 5-13 clay mark at that level, punched his main-draw ticket via Houston qualifying wins over Colton Smith and Daniel Merida Aguilar on March 17, riding 17-6 overall 2026 form and home-crowd support into this unpredictable matchup on River Oaks' outdoor courts.
