In the Bucharest Open ATP 250 clay-court opener, sixth seed Daniel Altmaier (world No. 55) faces Pedro Martinez (No. 113) in the round of 32, with both arriving on positive clay Challenger momentum from the past week. Altmaier, rebounding from an early-2026 slump, notched recent Naples Challenger wins over Miguel Damas and Andrea Guerrieri before a quarterfinal run, bolstering his baseline grinding on his preferred surface. Martinez, a Spanish clay specialist, carries sharper form with upsets like beating Pablo Carreno Busta and Remy Bertola in Alicante, holding a 2-1 head-to-head edge including their most recent clay clash. No injury concerns reported, though outdoor conditions could favor the higher-ranked German's seeding in this evenly matched first-round encounter.
