Top-seeded Jessica Pegula, ranked No. 5, advanced to the Credit One Charleston Open quarterfinals with a grueling three-set comeback win over Elisabetta Cocciaretto, rallying from 4-1 down in the decider on the unique green clay surface yesterday. She holds a perfect 2-0 head-to-head edge over No. 19 Diana Shnaider, including a straight-sets US Open fourth-round victory last year, bolstered by her strong 19-4 record this season. Shnaider, celebrating her 22nd birthday, dominated Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 6-0 in the third round, showcasing her career 65% clay win rate amid an 8-7 2026 start. Pegula's higher ranking, experience, and home-crowd edge on familiar Charleston courts shape trader consensus, though Shnaider's lefty power and recent momentum add upset potential in this outdoor WTA 500 matchup.
