In the Credit One Charleston Open's first round on green clay, No. 77 Eva Lys holds a slight edge over No. 95 Katie Volynets via their lone head-to-head meeting—a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 clay win for Lys in 2022 Lausanne—but recent developments temper trader optimism. Lys returned from a right knee injury that sidelined her through Dubai, Qatar, and Indian Wells, suffering a first-round Miami loss to Yulia Starodubtseva last week, raising rust and fitness concerns ahead of her 2026 clay debut. Volynets enters with steadier hard-court momentum, including a second-round Indian Wells run via wins over Rebecca Sramkova (ret.) and a qualifier before falling to Jelena Ostapenko. Home-crowd support for the American and neutral clay records (no 2026 matches for either) keep this opener closely contested.
