McCartney Kessler's higher WTA ranking at No. 53 over Elvina Kalieva's No. 154 anchors trader consensus favoring the 26-year-old American in this Credit One Charleston Open first-round matchup on green clay. Kalieva, a 22-year-old lucky loser, beat Madison Brengle in qualifying but suffered a lopsided 1-6, 1-6 defeat to Akasha Urhobo just 24 hours ago, raising concerns about quick turnaround fatigue and clay adjustment amid her 12-4 YTD record. Kessler enters rested as a direct entrant off a competitive Miami loss to Mirra Andreeva, though her WTA clay mark stands at 0-6 lifetime. With no head-to-head history, stylistic matchup and home-crowd edge for both Americans heighten upset potential.
