USD/KRW has rallied to 17-year highs above 1,530 in late March 2026, driven by Korean won depreciation amid global risk aversion, foreign outflows, and Middle East geopolitical tensions bolstering U.S. dollar demand via higher Treasury yields. The pair has since pulled back to around 1,511, reflecting Bank of Korea's neutral stance with its policy rate held steady at 2.5% since February, alongside upward revisions to 2026 GDP growth forecasts to 2%. Divergent monetary paths—BoK on extended pause versus Federal Reserve rate expectations—amplify interest rate differentials pressuring the won. Traders monitor BoK's April 9 decision and U.S. nonfarm payrolls for intervention signals or policy shifts that could dictate breaches of key thresholds through 2026.
