The retirement of long-serving Republican Rep. Rob Wittman has transformed Virginia's 1st Congressional District into a competitive open seat, fueling trader consensus favoring Democrat Vangie Williams at 50% implied probability over Republican Mike Clancy at 33%. Recent Hampton University polling shows Williams leading 46%-42% among likely voters, driven by her strong fundraising edge—over $3 million raised versus Clancy's $1.5 million—and appeal as a U.S. Army veteran in a military-heavy district. Clancy benefits from Trump endorsement and GOP base turnout efforts, but Williams' momentum from local endorsements and national Democratic headwinds narrowing has traders pricing a slight edge for Democrats amid uncertainty heading into the November 5 general election.
