Incumbent Republican Virginia Foxx secured her party's nomination in the March 3, 2026, primary with 74.5 percent of the vote and faces Democrat Chuck Hubbard in the November general election for North Carolina's 5th congressional district. Cook Political Report rates the contest Solid Republican, reflecting the district's consistent support for GOP candidates, including an 18-point margin for President Trump in the prior cycle and a partisan voting index of R+9. With primaries settled months ago and no major shifts in candidate positioning or external events since, trader consensus assigns the Republican nominee an 86.5 percent implied probability of victory, consistent with historical base rates for similar safe seats. The Democratic share of 31.6 percent captures residual uncertainty ahead of the fall campaign.
