Rep. Ilhan Omar's decisive August 2024 primary win over challenger Don Samuels by 13 points has solidified Democratic dominance in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, a reliably blue urban stronghold where President Biden carried over 80% in 2020 and Omar won general elections by 38-48 points since 2018. Trader consensus at 93.5% for Democrats reflects the district's heavy Democratic voter registration edge, progressive demographics, and weak Republican nominee Aaron Paul, who faces long odds amid minimal polling or fundraising. Realistic challenges include a major Omar scandal, suppressed Democratic turnout, or a national GOP wave, though historical base rates and current race ratings as "Solid Democratic" keep Republican odds at 6.2%. Upcoming early voting could signal shifts.
