Mercedes holds a commanding 98-67 constructors' lead over Ferrari after 1-2 finishes in the Australian and Chinese Grands Prix, with George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli dominating driver standings at 51 and 47 points amid superior race pace, qualifying dominance, and energy management under 2026 regulations. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton secured consistent podiums but trailed in both races, positioning them as credible challengers yet distant at trader consensus of around 12%. McLaren lags further back on 18 points following Oscar Piastri's Australian crash, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen endured DNFs and low finishes, eroding their title hopes early. Upcoming Japanese Grand Prix could widen the gap barring reliability issues or upgrades from rivals.
