SpaceX’s successful Flight 13 in July 2026 validated the Version 3 heat shield and precise terminal guidance after suborbital reentry, positioning Ship 40 for a potential tower catch. Elon Musk initially targeted the attempt for Flight 14—an orbital mission deploying Starlink V3 satellites—but revised the timeline in August to “a few months,” citing the need for additional data review, FAA approval of an expanded catch zone, and possible first reuse of a flown ship. Hardware work continues on lightened chopsticks for faster response, tower actuators at Starbase, and load testing at LC-39A, while the booster has already demonstrated three prior catches. The primary near-term catalysts remain regulatory clearance and the next integrated test flight, with full orbital-class reentry energy and terminal hover precision still unproven for the upper stage.

A successful catch is defined as the chopsticks capturing and supporting the Starship upper stage without it falling to the ground or causing catastrophic damage during the landing process.
If SpaceX attempts an ocean splashdown of the Starship upper stage instead of attempting to catch it using the Orbital Launch Tower's chopsticks, that attempt will not qualify. If no Starship launch occurs, or a successful catch does not take place, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No."
The resolution source for this market will be official video provided by SpaceX (https://www.youtube.com/c/SpaceX), as well as secondary video feeds and/or written reports if necessary.
