Aisha Wahab, the endorsed Democratic state senator, leads the field for California's 14th congressional district following strong results in the June 2 top-two primary, where she captured 38.5% of the vote ahead of Melissa Hernandez at 17.1%. The open seat stems from Eric Swalwell's resignation to pursue the governorship amid misconduct allegations. A separate special primary on June 16 will select nominees for the August 18 general, with several overlapping candidates including Wahab, Hernandez, and Republican contenders. Wahab's party backing and fundraising edge position her as the consensus frontrunner in this safely Democratic East Bay district, while the short timeline between the two primaries limits opportunities for major shifts in voter support.
