Tommy Paul, the fourth seed and world No. 23, holds a clear edge over 21-year-old Paraguayan qualifier Adolfo Daniel Vallejo (No. 99) in their second-round ATP Houston clash on outdoor clay, reflecting trader consensus on Paul's superior overall experience and recent Miami Open quarterfinal run where he dispatched Tomás Martín Etcheverry 6-1 6-3 before falling to Arthur Fils. Vallejo, riding momentum from a dominant 6-1 6-4 upset of No. 82 Zachary Svajda in the opener, boasts a strong clay record (70% win rate over 52 weeks) and higher clay Elo rating, posing upset potential via baseline grinding on his preferred surface. No prior head-to-head exists; Paul's all-court game and home-crowd support factor in, though Miami travel and clay transition could test him amid Houston's variable spring weather.
