Kai Harada’s work on the Lincoln Center Theater revival of Ragtime has driven overwhelming trader consensus for the 2026 Tony Award for Best Sound Design of a Musical. The production’s strong critical reception, multiple precursor wins, and high nomination count created clear momentum heading into the June 7 ceremony, where voters historically favor technically ambitious revivals with broad industry support. Harada’s dual nominations—for Ragtime and Cats: The Jellicle Ball—highlight his dominance this season, yet the market prices reflect Ragtime’s edge in guild and critics’ recognition. An upset would require a late surge from another nominee such as Adam Fisher’s The Lost Boys or a surprising bloc of votes for a newer musical, though such shifts remain unlikely given the established frontrunner status.
