Apple's ongoing efforts to source DRAM from blacklisted Chinese maker ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) face significant regulatory and geopolitical hurdles that support the 64% market-implied probability against purchases occurring in 2026. CXMT remains on the Pentagon's list of Chinese military companies, prompting Apple to lobby the Trump administration for clearance amid a tight global memory supply driven by AI demand. While Apple has begun testing CXMT chips for China-market devices and held preliminary talks, no agreements are finalized, and broader U.S. approval remains uncertain. Key upcoming catalysts include any White House or Commerce Department decisions on export controls or entity-list restrictions that could either enable limited sourcing or block progress entirely before year-end.
