Gold prices consolidated near $4,430–$4,450 per ounce on August 31 after peaking near $4,700 earlier in the month, as Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole remarks lifted the implied probability of a September rate hike to around 60% and reinforced higher-for-longer policy expectations. Sticky July core PCE at 3.7% year-over-year and geopolitical tensions with Iran added to upward pressure on real yields and the dollar, weighing on the non-yielding metal despite strong central bank purchases and U.S. Treasury bond buybacks that fueled the August rally. Traders now focus on upcoming labor market data, August CPI, and the September FOMC meeting for clarity on the rate path and gold’s near-term direction.
