Helen Zille’s position as the Democratic Alliance’s early-announced Johannesburg mayoral candidate for the November 2026 municipal elections underpins her leading 52.5% market price, reflecting traders’ assessment of her high-visibility campaign on infrastructure failures, service delivery shortfalls, and governance contrasts with the incumbent ANC-led administration. The ANC’s ongoing internal deliberations over contenders including Frank Chikane, David Makhura, and Loyiso Masuku have left its side of the contest fragmented, while candidates from ActionSA, other parties, and independents add further dispersion. With polls showing a competitive multi-party field and no clear path to an outright council majority, outcomes hinge on voter registration drives, turnout patterns, and post-election coalition negotiations that could elevate or sideline any single nominee.
