Recent polls from September 2026 show Labour edging National by 1 point at 28% to 27%, with both major parties at multi-decade lows as support shifts to minor parties including the Greens at 14%, NZ First at 13%, and ACT at 9%. The National-led coalition government under Christopher Luxon faces headwinds from voter assessments of economic conditions and policy delivery ahead of the 7 November election. These trends support the current trader consensus favoring Labour as the likely largest party or government-forming bloc, though seat projections indicate a tight contest where minor-party negotiations under the MMP system could determine the outcome. Minor parties remain priced near zero given threshold risks and coalition dynamics.
