ABC World News Tonight with David Muir maintained its dominant position as the most-watched evening newscast during the week of August 10–16, 2026, posting a weekly average of roughly 8.4 million total viewers according to Nielsen live-plus-same-day data and extending an 18-week streak atop all broadcast and cable programming excluding sports. Individual episodes, including Monday’s broadcast covering the Colombia earthquake and Midwest storms, delivered numbers clustering in the 8.5–9 million range, with no single outlier episode pushing significantly higher or lower amid routine coverage. Traders priced the 8.5m–9m outcome at essentially 100 percent because the program’s consistent lead over NBC Nightly News (by about 1.8 million viewers) and CBS Evening News aligns precisely with historical patterns and recent tracking. An upset into adjacent bins would require an unusually slow news cycle or a major breaking story that either depressed or spiked one specific episode well beyond the program’s established trajectory.
