Recent cooling in Brazilian inflation, with the August IPCA falling to 4.22% year-over-year and posting a sharper-than-expected -0.32% monthly decline, has reinforced trader expectations for continued Selic easing by the Central Bank of Brazil. This data, alongside signs of weakening economic activity, supports the market-implied 56.5% probability of a 25 basis point cut at the November Copom meeting, building on the anticipated September reduction from the current 14% level. Analysts have revised forecasts lower, citing improving underlying price pressures and positioning the Selic near 13.25% by year-end. Political uncertainty ahead of October elections adds to the scope for further accommodation, though the central bank’s data-dependent stance keeps a no-change outcome at 35.5% viable if inflation reaccelerates.

Increases or decreases of less than 25 bps will be rounded to 25 bps (e.g. an increase or decrease of 10 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 25 bps). Increases or decreases of greater than 25 bps will be rounded to the nearest 25 bps and will be rounded away from 0 in cases of equidistance (e.g., an increase or decrease of 37.5 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 50 bps). Displayed options of “Increase” or “Decrease” will include policy rate increases or decreases of any size.
If the specified meeting is postponed to a date and time before the start of the next scheduled meeting, this market will resolve based on the outcome of that postponed meeting.
