Strong ongoing audience demand and record-breaking performance in the rare 70mm IMAX format underpin the 99.5% market-implied probability of another extension for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. The film, the first shot entirely on IMAX cameras, has generated $457 million in global IMAX grosses—including a standout $66 million from just 41 70mm locations at roughly $1.6 million per screen—while its overall worldwide total nears $1.6 billion. IMAX has already granted two prior extensions, stretching the run to 11 weeks through September 30 amid consistent sell-outs and premium ticket pricing. Traders see continued momentum from repeat viewings and the format’s scarcity as likely to prompt Universal and IMAX to add dates again. A realistic upset remains possible if new October releases claim screens or if print and projector maintenance issues arise at the limited venues.
