This market will resolve to "Yes" if FIFA sells an equity stake in FIFA Forward Enterprise, or in any other entity that holds commercial rights to or operates the FIFA World Cup, to one or more outside investors by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". An outside investor refers to any person not employed, or entity not owned or controlled, by FIFA, its member associations, or its confederations. A qualifying sale refers to an outside investor acquiring direct equity ownership, voting shares, convertible rights treated as equity, or equivalent ownership interests in the entity. Non-equity financial instruments, sponsorship agreements, broadcast rights agreements, and other commercial contracts that do not convey ownership in the entity will not count. An official announcement by FIFA or by a purchasing investor of a completed qualifying sale, or of a binding agreement to complete a qualifying sale, within this market's timeframe will be sufficient to resolve this market to "Yes". Approvals of the entity's creation, proposals, negotiations, letters of intent, or other announcements which do not announce a completed sale or a binding sale agreement will not count. The entity need not be named FIFA Forward Enterprise, provided it fulfills the description above. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.FIFA's abrupt July 2026 decision to scrap plans for selling a minority stake in a proposed FIFA Forward Enterprises subsidiary—intended to handle commercial rights for the expanded 2026 World Cup and other events—has solidified trader expectations that no equity transaction will occur. Widespread opposition from UEFA, CONCACAF, AFC, and member associations, combined with criticism over potential investor influence on tournament operations and links to external backers like Thrive Eternal, prompted the reversal after just days of consultation. The move followed the 48-team tournament across North America and reflected concerns about preserving FIFA's governance role separate from commercialization. While the proposal's collapse under pressure drives the near-certain "no" consensus, renewed discussions could emerge if FIFA faces acute funding shortfalls or leadership shifts ahead of the 2030 cycle.
