**Strong summer performance anchored by tentpole releases positions 2026 for a mid-tier ranking among all-time domestic years.** The season through Labor Day reached a record $4.76 billion, narrowly topping 2013 and marking the first time each summer month exceeded $1 billion, fueled by *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* (nearing $924 million domestically), Christopher Nolan’s *The Odyssey* (over $589 million), and *Toy Story 5* (around $480 million). This momentum has lifted year-to-date totals to roughly $7.3 billion as of early September, outpacing 2025 and 2024 at similar points while trailing pre-pandemic peaks like 2019’s $11.36 billion. Analysts project a final haul near or above $9–9.5 billion if fall and holiday releases sustain the pace, which would place the year among the strongest post-pandemic results but unlikely to crack the top tier of nominal all-time leaders. Key upcoming catalysts include holiday blockbusters and any late-year surprises that could shift momentum before year-end totals lock in. Market-implied odds reflect this competitive but constrained outlook, with traders assigning the highest probability to a 10th–12th finish.

2026's rank will be determined against the figures for every other year listed on that same chart, such that the highest-grossing year on record ranks 1st, the second-highest ranks 2nd, and so on. This market will resolve to the bracket containing 2026's final rank.
This market will resolve according to unadjusted nominal gross. Inflation-adjusted figures, ticket sales, and admissions will not be used for resolution purposes.
This market will resolve according to the Box Office Mojo annual figures regardless of whether domestic refers to only the USA, or to USA and Canada, etc., and regardless of whether a year's total includes grosses earned by films released in prior years.
If 2026's final figure is exactly equal to that of another year, 2026 will be treated as holding the higher-ranking (lower-numbered) of the tied positions for the purposes of determining its bracket.
If there is no final data available by January 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, another credible resolution source will be chosen.
