The 2027 Best Adapted Screenplay race shows tight trader consensus around The Odyssey at 27% implied probability, The Invite at 25.5%, and The Black Ball at 18%, with Project Hail Mary and others trailing in single digits. Christopher Nolan’s July 2026 release of Homer’s epic has built momentum through strong critical reception, a high-profile cast, and the director’s post-Oppenheimer prestige, positioning its self-adapted screenplay as a frontrunner. Olivia Wilde’s The Invite benefits from Rashida Jones and Will McCormack’s sharp, dialogue-driven script and ensemble appeal, while The Black Ball draws support from its source material and campaign positioning. Project Hail Mary’s earlier March release and solid box office provide a baseline but face stiffer competition. With no guild or critics’ precursors yet available and late-year releases like Dune: Part Three still pending, the market reflects high uncertainty and sensitivity to upcoming reviews, festival reactions, and narrative shifts.
