China's July 2026 annual CPI eased to 0.5% year-over-year, the lowest reading since January and below consensus forecasts of 0.8%, according to National Bureau of Statistics data released in early August. This outcome reflects persistent weakness in domestic demand, with food prices declining 1.5% amid lower costs for fruit, eggs, and other staples, alongside slower non-food inflation and a 0.1% monthly drop in consumer prices. Producer prices also moderated to 3.5%, consistent with subdued factory-gate momentum. Trader consensus at 100% for ≤0.6% aligns directly with these verified figures. Potential challenges remain limited but could include rare post-release data revisions or adjustments in seasonal factors, though historical patterns show such changes rarely alter headline results materially once published.
