**One M6.7 event has already struck during the June 15–21 window, shaping current market odds.** On June 16, a tectonic earthquake of magnitude 6.7 occurred near Palu in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, according to BMKG analysis, with no associated tsunami risk. This confirmed event, occurring early in the period, has anchored trader expectations around a modest total. Global background rates provide the main context for the 53% implied probability on exactly two such quakes. Long-term USGS records show roughly 100–150 earthquakes of M6.0+ annually worldwide, translating to an average of about two M6.5+ events per week when accounting for natural variability. The period’s remaining days fall within typical quiet-to-moderate global activity, with no ongoing aftershock sequences, swarm activity, or large subduction-zone indicators reported by monitoring agencies that would push totals higher. No additional M6.5+ events appear in official catalogs for June 15–18 beyond the Indonesian quake, and smaller recent activity (such as M5.x events off California or in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge) does not signal elevated larger-magnitude risk. The market’s secondary clustering around three events (28%) reflects the possibility of one more moderate-to-large quake before June 21, consistent with Poisson-like variability in seismicity. Higher counts (four or more) remain low-probability without an unusual cluster or major aftershock sequence, which current monitoring does not support.

The resolution source for this market is the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earthquake Hazards Program (https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/browse/significant.php#sigdef).
If an earthquake of substantial size has occurred within this market's timeframe but not yet appeared on the resolution source, this market may remain open until June 30, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or until the earthquake in question otherwise appears on the resolution source. If such an earthquake has not appeared on the resolution source by that date, another credible resolution source will be used.
This market may not resolve until the timeframe of this market has concluded. If a qualifying earthquake has been recorded on the final day, this market may remain open for 24 hours to allow for revisions to the recorded magnitude. After 24 hours, this market will resolve according to the latest provided data.
