SpaceX's July 2026 Flight 13 delivered the key catalyst for current trader sentiment by achieving the first intact upper-stage splashdown with landing precision precise enough for Mechazilla's chopstick arms to have captured Ship 40, as confirmed by Elon Musk. This validated reentry control, heat shield performance on the V3 vehicle, and the flip maneuver after orbital-class return speeds, building on repeated Super Heavy booster catches since 2024. Tower upgrades with shorter electromechanical arms improve response for the lighter, faster-reentering Ship, though full orbital deorbit trajectories add complexity. Musk shifted the target from Flight 14 (late August) to a catch "in a few months," citing regulatory FAA approval for land returns and operational readiness as swing factors. Flight 14 static fires are complete, positioning the next integrated test and any follow-on missions as immediate catalysts that could resolve the market before October.

A successful catch is defined as the chopsticks capturing and supporting the Starship upper stage without it falling to the ground or causing catastrophic damage during the landing process.
If SpaceX attempts an ocean splashdown of the Starship upper stage instead of attempting to catch it using the Orbital Launch Tower's chopsticks, that attempt will not qualify. If no Starship launch occurs, or a successful catch does not take place, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No."
The resolution source for this market will be official video provided by SpaceX (https://www.youtube.com/c/SpaceX), as well as secondary video feeds and/or written reports if necessary.
