The St. Louis Cardinals visit the Cincinnati Reds for a three-game series at Great American Ball Park beginning May 22, with both clubs navigating early-season challenges in the NL Central. The Cardinals are dealing with outfielder Lars Nootbaar’s placement on the 60-day injured list due to ongoing heel issues following surgery, which has impacted their lineup depth and outfield production. Cincinnati enters with recent struggles, including a five-game losing streak that has pressured their wild-card positioning, while the Cardinals have shown steadier recent form behind pitchers like Kyle Leahy. Home-field factors at Great American Ball Park, combined with starting-pitcher matchups such as Cincinnati’s Brady Singer against St. Louis options, remain central to series outcomes. Traders are weighing these roster and momentum elements against the clubs’ head-to-head history in divisional play.
