The Chicago Cubs enter the series with a stronger 31-27 record and competitive standing in the NL Central, supported by consistent recent form under manager Craig Counsell. The San Francisco Giants sit at 22-36, mired near the bottom of the NL West after a five-game losing streak, and face roster challenges including outfielder Harrison Bader’s plantar fasciitis and pitcher Tyler Mahle’s hamstring strain on the injured list. The matchup at Wrigley Field on June 5 highlights the Cubs’ home advantage and pitching depth against the Giants’ transition year under first-year manager Tony Vitello. Recent head-to-head trends and schedule positioning favor the Cubs’ implied probability edge, though Giants starters like Logan Webb could influence outcomes in individual games.
