The New York Mets enter the matchup with a sub-.500 record in the NL East, hampered by multiple injuries including shortstop Francisco Lindor’s strained calf and outfielder Tyrone Taylor’s hip flexor strain, both on the injured list, along with additional roster adjustments like moving starter David Peterson to the bullpen. The San Diego Padres have shown offensive inconsistency early in the season, using 13 different lineups through their first 13 games while posting the majors’ lowest OPS from the leadoff spot and dealing with their own injury concerns such as infielder Jake Cronenworth. Both clubs have recent series results against divisional opponents that highlight ongoing form and bullpen usage challenges heading into their next contest.
