The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, longtime NL Central rivals, enter their late-May series at Busch Stadium with nearly identical records near the top of the division. Both clubs sit around .570 winning percentage, with the Cubs at 29-22 and Cardinals at 28-21. Key factors include Chicago’s pitching depth challenges, notably left-hander Justin Steele’s 60-day elbow injury and outfielder Matt Shaw’s recent back issue, alongside St. Louis starter Andre Pallante’s strong recent outings. Home-field advantage, recent form, and head-to-head history will shape the matchup in this closely contested division race.
