Banxico’s unanimous decision to hold the benchmark rate at 6.50% since June 2026 underpins the 92% market-implied probability of no change at the November meeting. Persistent core inflation near 3.9% and headline readings around 3.3% in August, above the 3% target, have prompted the board to maintain a restrictive stance amid upside risks from trade policy uncertainty, peso volatility, and geopolitical pressures. Recent analyst surveys, including Citi’s September poll, reinforce expectations that the rate will remain at 6.50% through year-end 2027. A sharper disinflation trajectory or pronounced economic weakness could still open the door to a 25 basis point cut, while renewed price pressures would be required to shift odds toward a hike.

Increases or decreases of less than 25 bps will be rounded to 25 bps (e.g. an increase or decrease of 10 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 25 bps). Increases or decreases of greater than 25 bps will be rounded to the nearest 25 bps and will be rounded away from 0 in cases of equidistance (e.g., an increase or decrease of 37.5 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 50 bps).
