Sam Liccardo, the Democratic incumbent, dominated California's June 2 top-two primary for the 16th congressional district, capturing roughly 75% of the vote and advancing to the November general election. Republican Peter Soule edged out Kevin Johnson for the second spot with about 11% to 10.5%, while the remaining candidate trailed far behind. The district's strong Democratic tilt, shaped by recent redistricting under Proposition 50, limited Republican primary turnout and competition. With results now certified, trader consensus on advancing candidates has aligned closely with these vote shares, leaving little uncertainty ahead of the general election matchup.
