California's 14th congressional district faces a crowded special primary on June 16, 2026, to fill the vacancy created by Eric Swalwell's April resignation. State Senator Aisha Wahab holds a leading position after securing the California Democratic Party endorsement and drawing support from organized labor and progressive groups focused on housing and worker issues. Other Democratic contenders, including Melissa Hernandez and Rakhi Israni, split remaining votes in the June 2 top-two primary for the regular term, while Republican candidates Wendy Huang and Dena Maldonado placed lower. California's nonpartisan primary rules mean the top two advance to the August 18 special general, with voter turnout, mail ballot processing in Alameda County, and any last-minute campaign developments likely shaping advancement.
