Kevin Kiley, the incumbent who switched to no party preference after redistricting under Proposition 50, leads early returns in the June 2, 2026, nonpartisan primary for California's newly configured 6th congressional district, which now includes portions of Sacramento, Placer, and Yolo counties. Former state senator and physician Richard Pan trails closely among a crowded field of Democrats that also includes Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho, Lauren Babb Tomlinson, Martha Guerrero, and others. The top-two advancement system means outcomes hinge on vote splits among Democratic contenders and Kiley's independent support base in the Sacramento-area electorate. Recent campaign activity has centered on endorsements, with no party endorsement from California Democrats, while procedural factors such as ballot order and turnout in the redrawn territory continue to shape final tallies.
