Lula maintains a commanding lead in Maranhão for first place in the October 4 first round, driven by the state's status as a Northeast stronghold where PT alignments and federal policy priorities have produced consistent double-digit margins in recent state-level surveys. An August Quaest poll showed the president at 58% against 20% for Flávio Bolsonaro, with all other listed candidates at 2% or below and government approval near 66%. Traders reflect this positioning through the elevated odds, consistent with historical voting patterns in the region and high reported firmness among respondents. A late surge by a challenger or major shift in the remaining undecided share could still narrow the gap, though the scale of the current lead and proximity to voting limit realistic pathways for reversal.
