Stripe and private equity firm Advent International’s July 2026 joint $53.4 billion all-cash bid for PayPal at $60.50 per share—a roughly 28% premium—remains the dominant catalyst behind the 56.5% implied probability of some acquisition closing this year. PayPal’s board rejected the offer days later as undervaluing the company, citing its consumer scale and turnaround efforts, yet left the door open for higher terms. Market-implied odds reflect ongoing negotiation potential amid Stripe’s strategic interest in PayPal’s merchant infrastructure and user base, supported by committed bank financing, while regulatory scrutiny and comparable fintech deals add uncertainty. Trader consensus prices in a contested but plausible path to a revised transaction before year-end.
