Iran has already secured its spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup via AFC qualification and remains on track to participate despite earlier speculation. A late-April proposal by a U.S. envoy to substitute Italy drew immediate pushback from FIFA sources stating no such plans exist, plus public rejections from Italian officials and legends who called the idea humiliating. Iran has since shifted its base camp to Mexico amid U.S. entry concerns while confirming it will compete, and FIFA has reiterated the team’s inclusion in Group G matches. With the tournament less than two weeks away and no withdrawal or suspension confirmed, the market reflects broad trader consensus that the qualified Asian side will feature as scheduled, leaving little room for a replacement such as the UAE.
