A January 2026 Paris meeting produced a joint communication cell for intelligence sharing and dispute resolution, yet persistent gaps remain over Israeli withdrawals from southern areas seized after the Assad regime's collapse, Syrian demands for full territorial restoration, and Israeli requirements for guarantees against Iranian proxies and threats to border communities. Ongoing Israeli military operations in the south and Syria's restrictions on cross-border activity further complicate progress, with US envoy involvement and potential future diplomatic channels as key variables for any near-term accord.
