California’s June 2 top-two primary for the newly redrawn 6th District follows Proposition 50 redistricting that shifted boundaries and prompted former Republican Rep. Kevin Kiley to switch to no party preference status after moving from the neighboring seat. Early returns show Kiley leading with roughly 27 percent, ahead of Republican Michael Stansfield and a crowded Democratic field that includes former state Sen. Richard Pan, Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho, Planned Parenthood executive Lauren Babb Tomlinson, and West Sacramento Mayor Martha Guerrero. Democratic vote splitting has left the second spot contested, while Kiley’s name recognition in the Sacramento area provides a structural edge in the all-party primary format that advances the top two finishers regardless of party. No major endorsements or late developments have altered the initial count.
