Virginia's 11th congressional district maintains a strong Democratic tilt, reflected in its D+18 Partisan Voter Index and consistent performance in recent presidential and House elections. Incumbent Democrat James Walkinshaw secured the seat in a September 2025 special election following Gerry Connolly's death and now seeks a full term, facing limited Republican opposition in a Northern Virginia suburban district. Multiple Democratic primary contenders are set for an August 4, 2026 vote, yet general election dynamics favor continuity. Nonpartisan forecasters rate the race as solid or safe Democratic, aligning with trader pricing that assigns the Republican Party only a marginal implied probability of victory. Late developments such as unexpected primary shifts or broader national swings could still influence the November outcome, though structural factors constrain those risks.
