Ongoing international sanctions, elevated inflation exceeding 60-80% annually, and renewed regional military tensions have accelerated the Iranian rial's depreciation in free-market trading, pushing the USD/IRR rate to record levels above 1.9 million rials by late July 2026. Limited foreign currency inflows, high domestic demand for hard assets, and constrained oil export revenues amid blockades and diplomatic isolation have reinforced this trajectory. The 1.9M+ outcome reflects trader consensus on these entrenched pressures, as the rate already crossed key thresholds with no evident stabilization. Potential shifts could stem from sudden diplomatic agreements easing sanctions, major central bank interventions boosting supply, or unexpected oil revenue windfalls, though such catalysts appear improbable within the resolution window.
