Tyler Robinson faces aggravated murder charges in Utah for the September 2025 shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Prosecutors presented DNA evidence linking him to the rifle, apparent confessions via text and messaging apps, and video of his movements during a July 2026 preliminary hearing described as showing overwhelming proof of probable cause. Defense counsel has challenged key elements, including the sole aggravating factor supporting a death penalty request, with a judge’s ruling on whether the case proceeds to trial expected after September arguments. No plea has been entered, and no trial date is set. These unresolved procedural and evidentiary disputes, along with the extended timeline into late 2026, underpin trader consensus favoring a “No” outcome on conviction at current implied probabilities.
