San Diego Padres hold trader consensus edge as hosts at pitcher-friendly Petco Park for the April 9 series opener against the Colorado Rockies, with right-hander Randy Vasquez (1-0, 0.75 ERA) drawing the start versus Colorado's TBA. Both NL West clubs sit near .500 early—Padres around 4 wins, Rockies 3—amid sluggish starts, but San Diego's deeper lineup and home splits bolster their position against a Rockies squad prone to road struggles away from Coors Field. Key injuries sideline Padres pitchers like Jason Adam (quad) and Yuki Matsui (groin), while Colorado manages without Kris Bryant (back, 60-day IL); no major position-player absences reported. Mild San Diego weather favors steady play, with bullpen depth a watch point for late innings.
