Ousted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro's ongoing pretrial proceedings in New York federal court on narcoterrorism conspiracy and drug trafficking charges, which carry potential life sentences, underpin trader consensus favoring 60+ years at 34.5%, reflecting DOJ's advancing case bolstered by cooperating witnesses like ex-generals. Recent May 4 rulings allowing Venezuelan government funding for his defense while setting a June 30 hearing—after rejecting early dismissal bids—have solidified momentum toward trial, differentiating severe penalties from lighter outcomes tied to lesser counts. No prison time at 23.5% persists amid defense challenges to the US military capture's legality and immunity claims, with plea bargains or acquittal risks keeping the field wide open pending verdict or procedural reversals.
