This market will resolve to "Yes" if there have been the specified amount or more confirmed domestically acquired cases of cyclosporiasis in humans in the territory of the United States of America since May 1, 2026, according to the CDC surveillance count by August 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source for this market will be the CDC Surveillance of Cyclosporiasis page’s “U.S. cases reported to CDC” count (see: https://www.cdc.gov/cyclosporiasis/php/surveillance/index.html) at the resolution time. If the counter becomes unavailable, another credible source will be used. Note: Only cases reported by the CDC as confirmed domestically acquired cases of cyclosporiasis will qualify, regardless of reports from U.S. State agencies or other sources. Travel-associated cases acquired outside the United States will not qualify.**The primary driver of trader sentiment is the record-shattering 2026 cyclosporiasis season, with CDC data showing 17,180 laboratory-confirmed domestically acquired cases from May 1 through August 24—more than 14 times the 1,180 cases recorded over the same period in 2025.** A major multistate outbreak tied to processed iceberg lettuce from central Mexico accounts for a substantial share of illnesses, alongside at least six other clusters under investigation by CDC and FDA. Cases span 48 states plus D.C., with 922 hospitalizations and two deaths reported; median symptom onset was July 7. Cyclosporiasis, caused by the Cyclospora cayetanensis parasite and typically transmitted via contaminated fresh produce, follows a pronounced seasonal pattern peaking in summer. Because confirmation involves lab testing, patient interviews, and reporting lags, final August 31 totals may rise further even after the official season closes, directly shaping market resolution.
