Recent cooling in Canadian CPI inflation to 2.8% year-over-year in June 2026, driven by softer gasoline prices amid restored energy supply flows, has anchored trader expectations for no change in the Bank of Canada's 2.25% policy rate at its October meeting. The central bank's July hold—the sixth consecutive—highlighted broadening but moderating growth, with GDP forecasts at 2.75% for 2026 and core inflation measures easing toward the 2% target. Market-implied odds reflect this stability, pricing in limited scope for a 25-basis-point move either way given geopolitical uncertainties and the absence of strong labor-market or demand signals that would warrant adjustment before the September decision.

Increases or decreases of less than 25 bps will be rounded to 25 bps (e.g. an increase or decrease of 10 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 25 bps). Increases or decreases of greater than 25 bps will be rounded to the nearest 25 bps and will be rounded away from 0 in cases of equidistance (e.g., an increase or decrease of 37.5 bps would be considered to be an increase or decrease of 50 bps).
