Vietnam's National Assembly elected Tô Lâm as State President for the 2026-2031 term during the first session of its 16th legislature on April 7, 2026, following the March legislative elections where the Communist Party of Vietnam secured nearly all seats. As the re-elected CPV General Secretary since January 2026, Tô Lâm's selection aligns with party consensus in Vietnam's one-party system, where the Assembly's vote formalizes leadership transitions. Traders price him at full certainty, reflecting the oath-taking ceremony and absence of challenges. Realistic shifts would require unprecedented developments like a party reversal, health crisis, or procedural invalidation, none of which have surfaced.
